Just bought a CPO 2005 C230 Komrpessor Sport Sedan with automatic and NAV last week. This is my second Mercedes Benz (had a 2001 C240 before, sold it in 2006)) and so far in every area this is a solid improvement. The C240 rode better on rough pavement, but otherwise the newer car is faster, equally smooth on good roads, handles much better and just feels better built. Some might find the (stock) exhaust noisy, but I find it sporty and entirely pleasant.
The best part by far, and the reason I bought it is the fuel economy. After selling my C240 with over 100,000 miles on it I was driving my 07 Ford F150 and 07 Toyota Camry 4 Cylinder, but as gas prices kept climbing and my wife also started doing more driving, the need for a second fuel efficient car became pressing.
My initial thought for a 30+ MPG car was a Prius or other hybrid, but none of them were to my liking. I looked at and almost ordered a Mini Cooper, but the dealer markups were outrageous. Finally I had all but resigned myself to a boring yet economical new Corolla, when for some reason I went to my local MB dealer to look at the new C class.
the new C didn't get anywhere near the highway mileage I wanted, but the salesman told me that the 1.8 liter Kompressors did.
In 1200 miles of mixed driving (70% freeway) my average so far is 29 MPG, while my freeway cruises average an extremely impressive 33 MPG, measured both by the computer and old-fashioned arithmetic. The Corolla may have done 1 or 2 MPG better, but this is a much sweeter ride.
Its got 41,000 miles on it, so hopefully it will let me add a one in front of that before any serious (expensive) problems arise. Most of my driving is back and forth from LA to Bakersfield, CA, so the miles are gentle.
So far, I am really enjoying my drive.
