Unhappy ***Please Help***

Hopefully there is someone out there who can help me so I don't have to run to the dealership!

I just recently purchased a 1997 c280. When I went to pick up the car after getting the plates and the car registered I turned on the radio on my way home. After turning on the radio I suddenly heard a loud long beep go off and after a couple of seconds or a minute the loud long beep would go off. This sound would occur every now and then, and would last no longer than a minute or two. Is there anyone out there who knows what is going and could please help me out before I decide to take it to the dealership. I asked the former owner if he noticed the sound he claims to have no knowledge of the sound. So I am wondering if its something that I did or that maybe he is lying to me. Nothing on the dashboard lights up to warn of any engine or break problems so I am stuck and have no clue!

What was causing the beeping problem? Hope it wasn't anything major.

Is the beep coming from radio, or from the dashboard.
Good idea with newer cars is to buy OBDII scaner, since some errors don't display on the dashboard right away.

I would check your cassette door, I kept mine open once and got a beep.
