Hi ya everybody. New to the forum but not to the star

some years ago I bought a 190E 2,3 w/ 4sp man gear and start problems. Me and my big head thought "Ok, a fixer-upper!" Later on I discovered that the leaky manual sunroof was not original, ugly welds (probably not legal!!) and the whole car was rusted beyond belief.

So when a "friend" told me that he had a much nicer car I could buy from him at a cheap price, I thought "Ok, parts here and there equals good car." I was wrong. It was a 84' 2.0 automatic with a kind of racing 16v sound to it. That sound turned out to be a real faulty exhaust valve. This car was also rusted, but this had potential, and besides the engine was running!
So what was wrong with this car, was replaced with what that was right on the other car. Oh, I forgot to mention, this car had a working electric sunroof!
But due to time and money it was just sitting in the driveway, while I was driving around in Toyota's, nissan's and mazda's. So the first one ended it's life underneath the belts of a digging machine and the other given away to a friend as a thanks for the help with something.

Now after some years driving a Toyota Camry, my economy allowed a 89' mercedes 190E 2.0 into to my life. (circle of life I suppose) It had only ran 175000 km with an old man (now resting safely beneath 6 feet of earth) which wasn't the seller. To my surprise its still got 175000 on the speedometer though I've driven it at least 10 000. Something smells fishy, and I found out after I bought it, that the gearbox used air as a lubrication. So this had to get an overhauling.
Still it isn't behaving like it should but at least its shifting by itself.

So the other day I saw an ad for a 87' 2,6 crashed car for an unbelieveable low price. Upon closer inspection it was with automatic (which worked helluva better than mine ever have) and it was a rebuilt 2.0!
But, all the pieces to a complete 2.6 was there, the previous owner just didn't want to get a higher premium on his insurance so he didn't bother to get it approven and re-registered. All and all its a perfect extra parts car.
I bought it.

One question from me to you; AM I NUTS?

Future plans is to rebuild my 2.0 to 2.6 and try to make it as driveable as possible (better suspension, bigger brakes). And update the exterior a little bit. Perhaps tuning the engine some.
