i always liked the larger bodied, non rounded headlight early to mid 90's MB generation vehicles. no offense to the round lamp guys and gals, they arent horrid, im just not a huge fan of them
looking thru the forums for a short amount of time it appears that the W140 era seems to be what im seeing around on some lots in town and interested in possibly picking one up.
ive read some horror stories on repairing these vehicles and the reliability on MB. in MY thoughts, i always seemed to think that the older MB's were more "bulletproof" in terms of reliable compared to most 98-01+ model years.
today i saw one, i think E320?, with 201K miles on it!
it was pretty cheap, around 6K, in pretty decent shape in and out. a car like this would be a weekend/go out/family kinda car and not a constant daily driver and mainly im wondering what specific model or models are a NO NO or good etc...i dont wanna be under the hood every week with this thing pulling my hairs out trying to work on it all the time.
i currently own a ford crown vic, that other than that plastic intake i had to replace which i expected when i bought the car anyways, its been 95% trouble free and its got 115K miles on the clock and still strong other than needing a good fluid change overhaul (tranny, rear end, coolant flushing, etc.) laugh all you want but im not giving up the vic, and laugh more for the sheer fact that i love my vic and hope to never get rid of it but i would like a second car to have fun with, look good in, classy, and to kinda shed some miles off the vic once and a while but also needs to be a good constant reliable turn key car that i dont need to worry about after 10 miles of city driving.
whats the deal with these older MB's in terms of total miles, longevity, etc? common issues? maintainence, etc? i dont totally mind a little higher mileage car if its got a history of being trouble free for the most part.
be honest, i wont feel like i cant buy it if i hear bad stuff about them ill move on and look at a different classy large weekender type car.
keep in mind, i live in vegas and it DOES get hot here!!!! cooling system reliabilty is a must!
