AM radio band static

In my 2000 E320 we have lots of static from AM stations more than 10 miles form the car. Is this a local/distance setting that I haven't found out about or an antenna problem? The closest stations are about 30 miles away and are our only source while traveling about the countryside for talk radio.

AM Static

FM reception is excellent. CD works again now that I cleaned it and secured the cables. I live in Lancaster, PA and in our other cars AM reception from York and Harrisburg is good but staticy in areas with a lot of overhead power lines. They haven't learned to bury the utilities in PA yet. Same locations with the MB and its is garbled to static reception. The 2 local stations in Lancaster are fine. I thought there might be a local/distance setting that was hidden somewhere. Any thoughts?

Hey, key, welcome to the forum.

There isn't any LX/DX switch...if you come visit the W210 forum (the one for your car) and do a search you'll find a couple of mentions on this topic. One discusses cleaning and tightening the connections, inside the left C pillar if memory serves. Mine does this too but it hasn't gotten so bad yet that I am ready to dig in to it and I was going to confirm that location before I did.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
