Unhappy 2000 ckl320 won't start after 15 minute drive

My 2000 clk320, starts fine every morning and every night, but when I drive for 15-20 minutes during the day and I stop at a store (80-90 degree normal outside temp) the car just cranks when I get back in 10 minutes later. After 3-5 attemps at around 10 seconds each it will then start and run without a problem. The car did stop once while caught in bumper to bumper traffic and re-started about 5 minutes later. The temp guage on the dashboard reads about 90- 100 degrees. This is a recent problem which started about 4 weeks ago.

Hi, Dave, welcome to the forum. The W208 forum is the home one for your car, the general forum can be "too general". When you have a minute click the usercp link and update our profile to include your vehicle and location.

In this case that sounds EXACTLY like a CPS, it's a fairly common problem.

There is a DIY in the W210 forum (E class) that is exactly the same for your car, so you can use that to DIY. Depending on the part (there are two different ones potentially as you'll note in the DIY) it's $50-$80.

Take care and enjoy the ride,

Get yourself a crank sensor...its located rear of the engine in front of the trans...if you are standing in front of the vehicle it is on the right....held in by an E8 torx. Plug and
play and you will be good to go....take care
