Exclamation remote wont unlock 01 clk 320

my remote will not open the door or trunk unless you point it at the ir reader at the doors, "2001 clk 320"

i was told this could be due to the com bar "antenna" on the top rear of my car the thing is that the antenna is broken ive looked at a lot of clk's in my area that have broken antennas at the top, this could be due to the fact that they arnt removable.

Another strange thing is that the car unlocks with the remote when im sitting in the car but if i toch my remote to the com bar antenna it wont even unlock.

So my question is A. how to i diag this issue and B. what are the steps in replaceing the com bar. i dont want to chage this part and still have the same issue. Also my radio signal isnt too good this could also be related due to the broken antenna at the top. It's strange that the fm and signal for the remote go throught the same antenna.

thanks!

I think you should be glad to see your post read so many times, myself I've been in sleep since you posted (I tend to go to sleep pretty early, from your perspective at least). Proper answers may take weeks, you may still need to wait for awhile.

You had pretty good description which should help "diagnosing" the issue. In my opinion everything still points to the rear antenna/amplifier.

I did not look at your wiring, perhaps you could remove the power source to the remote antenna amplifier, at best it could be done from a fuse (unless other critical devices are sourced from the same fuse, then you would need to find the wire).

For the steps to replace the parts I would suggest subscribing to the workshop info service:
http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/index.jsp
or buy the service instructions for your car from MBUSA.

If that is expensive, I guess then you understand why service at official MB workshops is expensive. This isn't the only thing they have to invest on, diagnosis tools are getting cheaper but are still very expensive. Many independent shops have these, this explains only part of the price difference then.

You mean the central locking antenna? Taking the overhead control panel fuse out should remove power from the antenna.

01 clk 320 remote not working

I’ve removed each fuse one by one still no unlocking unless I point the remote at the door I got a new remote so I know this is not the issue. someone said the fuse you are speaking of is in the trunk, I removed each fuse one by one still no unlocking/locking.. where is the overhead control panel fuse located? the trunk?
Also what is the part number for the communication bar? is that what the antenna is called?
I called Mercedes and they said we do not give out part numbers! I love Mercedes but they are very rude and their service is not nearly as good as vw Audi or bmw, although they do give you a rental car on every service interval. buy the way mbusa you guys are in big trouble!
thanks again

Is this a 208 or a 209 car? Is it a cabrio?

I guess the idea to remove the antenna amp fuse was to verify that it does not make any difference and you door locks operate via the IR signal.

I'd figure out the wiring at the antenna amplifier, you may need new parts.

i've got an 05 c230 and have the same problem. i took mine to mercedes and paid to have it looked at..there is a strip of plastic right behind the backside of the headliner which like u said is called the antenna amplifier. mine is actually damaged and the cost of the part is 450 for a piece of plastic with sensors in it. along with that beautiful price is the quote of 900$ for labor...so i hope u find luck with it being only the fuse
