MBUSA promotion or gimmick?

I received this from service.mbdealerus.com on behalf of my dealer. I took them up on it, and it was indeed free (they couldn't find anything needed). Do you guys think this is a MBUSA gimmick to drum up service business for the dealers or do they actually appreciate us?

Thanks for looking,

MM

My guess, revenue in the service department is down.

I agree 100% MB-SV, but I forgot to add: How do they check a fuel filter? The only way I know of is to pull a hill, and if the car hesitates the filter could be bad. I forgot to ask if a test drive was part of the inspection. I also don't know if this included a Star hookup.

While I'm cynical enough to agree with MB-SV, I see a third possibility...

It's possible that there have been some problems showing up with fuel injector seals or something, maybe a couple of fires, and they're testing a few cars in more remote areas of the country (I've received no such letter and we have the same car -- most days I could throw a rock and hit three or four W210s) to see how widespread it is.

Of course that is not to say that they won't offer to fix all the other things they find -- and certainly not for free -- but that is still a possibility.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)

My guess was just based on the slowing economy. The impact is being felt by the premium auto makers (Benz and BMW included), as reported in WSJ recently.

And maybe not just in sales volume but in service revenue too. Slower sales result in fewer service visits. As people drive fewer miles, time between service visits tends to lengthen slowing the gravy train a bit.

I had courtesy "safety inspection" from my dealer last year. They found that I need new drivershaft flex disks for around $500. They figure that out without removing the underbelly shields (they had lot of dirt on them when I got to them).
My believe is they did the inspection not leaving the office.
One of the disks was new and the other lasted another year just fine.

I received the same thing from my dealer today. It's just a way to increase revenue for their service department. It has nothing to do with how much they 'appreciate' us.

Thanks Greg, I hadn't considered something like that. Now a member from CA said he got one too. I'm just glad I can trust mine to not suggest doing things I don't need. Plus, I just had an "A" service done there 2000 miles ago and the email description sounds nearly identical to one of those, minus the oil change.

service.mbdealersus.com appears not a valid website.

In any event, don't consider this anything from Mercedes or MBUSA.

BTW, there is on NO vehicle NO NEED for something called
"periodic wheel alignment." This is a scam. Wheel alignment is ONLY EVER needed when something wears out or is damaged in an accident.
