I have a '78 Euro 350 like yourself, there are a load of reasons why you might be struggling with this - check out the 107 forum.
You can pick up a Haynes manual for the 350 / 450, with the M116 and M117 engines, on eBay quite cheaply. Have a look.
M116 was used in lots of models, so you'll also see it referred to in W126 forum quite a lot also.
