Service A @ 60000 miles : @2000 E320

Hi,

I have a 2000 E320 with 60000 miles on it. Service A is due on it now.

i took it to the dealer and he recomended the following

- Antifreeze Flush
- Brake Fluid Flush
- Fuel Filter change
- Air filter change

I also called a german car mechanic and he remomended all of the above plus the following

- spark plug and wiring
- carbon filters

I am now confused as to what needs to be actually changed.

i am of the opinion that ..If it aint broke...dont fix it..

Any comments on what should i get done

It partly depends on your service history. MB recommends changing your coolant every 3 years and your brake fluid every 2 years. As far as I know there is no recommended interval for a fuel filter. The cabin air filters might be due as is the engine air filter. Your spark plugs are supposed to last 100,000 miles so unless you have symptoms, I would not have those changed yet.

thanks for you response...
i have been punctual with my services so far. its just the dealer is asking 130$ each for the fluid flushes...
I have ahd the car for about 2 years now and am the second owner...
the car only had 20000 miles when i bought it...its only driven about 3-4 k/ year...

For a 2000 E320, the recommended services are as followed:

Dust filter (aka cabin filter) every B service

Engine air filter every 4 years or 60,000 miles (which ever comes first)

Fuel filter every 5 years or 60,000 miles (which ever comes first)

Charcol filter every 5 years or 60,000 miles (which ever comes first) if your car is equiped with them.

Brake fluid flush every 2 years

Coolant flush every 3 years

and spark plugs every 5 years or 100,000 miles (which ever comes first)

Also I'd recommend even doing a transmission service every 35,000-40,000 miles too. Saves the transmission in the long run.

That's way too much for the flushes, but pretty much in line with the stealer. These cars will eat you alive if you don't DIY. But if you have the money, more power to you.

Agree with MM, you don't need plugs until 100K. However, you didn't mention the AT service (fluid and filter change) and you are in the range for that.

Ditto to Greg on 3 counts:

1) Dealer will be expensive for brake fluid and coolant flush (been there, done that).
2) Service your transmission soon.
3) Please join us on the W210 forum.

Not that it's right, but I have the original fuel filter at over 72,000 miles. One dealer I asked said the same thing Joshua did: 5 years or 60,000. Mine is more flexible and I've never seen that in writing from MB. I'm also told the most common symptom of a partially clogged fuel filter is engine hesitation climbing hills.
