Lurker emerges in Sunny San Dog, CA..

Now that we are a 2-Benz household, I thought it was time to stop lurking and come above ground (so to speak)...our '04 E500 has been a great driver (though a maintenance hassle) since acquiring it back in 2006, so we bit the bullet and just bought a low mileage (42K), well equipped, black on black E55 for my own use as a daily driver. Should arrive in a week or so.

I've mostly owned BMW's as daily drivers over the last 30 years, from 2002ti's to a Dinan 540i, but BMW lost me with the new "Bangle-ized" 5-series, along with the irritating I-drive. Driving the E500 over the last few years has been great, though getting used to the slow throttle tip-in and quick brake response took some time to get used to (I am a fairly aggressive driver)... so much so that I decided to forego a long-desired M5 to see if the AMG mystique is deserved.

Some background - I am a long time (former) SCCA, POC, and PCA racer (P-cars hold a dear spot in my heart, I still have 2), but these days I prefer playing with my '65 FFR Cobra replica, flying large scale and turbine R/C airplanes, and messing about with HPR/experimental rocketry. I still drag out the P-cars and Cobra for car shows and an occasional romp at the track. I also enjoy the occasional mechanical workout with the toys, but the street cars generally go to a shop or dealer for most work these days (though I do enjoy doing mods myself when the occasion arises).

Happily married, one adult (married) child, and we live near Sunny San Diego, with lots of nice roads to play on (and no need for all-weather shoes on the toys ). I likely won't post often, but will contribute where I can.

Some pics... cheers,
