Drop in MB Reliability...now at bottom of the heap?

"In the last two years Ford has managed to enhance predicted reliability although it is still far behind Asian automakers. The Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan sedans have scored a little bit higher than the Honda Accord V6 and Toyota Camry V6 but the Japanese car makers have counteracted with the 2006 model of Hyundai Azera. For a clearer view of the Asian success on the reliability scale it should be known that 39 out of 47 are Japanese vehicles. Situated at the opposite end of the rating are the German cars Mercedes-Benz - CLS, E-Class Sedan, SL, CLK, SLK (V6), M-Class, R-Class and the 2006 S-Class."

The above is sourced from Tim Mathew - EzineArticles.com Expert Author

and I must say that,as a 30 year plus owner of MB vehicles I agree with the findings.

I can agree for the W163 M-Class but I think there are substantial improvements for the W164s..

The improved W164 is still mediocre, instead of total pos in terms of reliability. Consumer Reports charts support that.

Daimler AG took a financial bath by buying Chrysler and it might take a while for them to recover. Don't totally give up on MB yet, just allow them a couple of years to come back.

I agree that MB is more focused on the quality/reliability issue lately. It's apparent in the new C-class, which is a critical highest volume product for the US market. But time will tell....

Latest JB Power reports show Mercedes very very good.

But, it's open season on Mercedes in journalist (so-called) circles.

I'd ignore it. I do and don't suffer for it.

It's especially HILARIOUS to be talking Ford, Toyota, etc. in the same post as Mercedes.

Are apples higher "quality" than oranges? Give me a break.

Have you looked at the Tucson and Sante Fe...their build quality and fuel efficiency is excellant at half the price of MB.
MB have lost the plot the last 10 years and will never regain the position they once held as quality leaders.

Talking

The key words in your opening statement that caught MY eye were:" Perdicted Reliability"What a load of CRAP!!!!!!!! And yes I have looked at the Tuson and the Sante Fe, No thanks!!!!! Sure the quality has suffered a little, To alot of people,Mercedes quality has gone downhill with the Chrysler deal. Well, that deal is DONE!!!!! Now pay close attention to the next couple of years. I feel it will FULLY recover!!!!! ALL car builders can't be at the TOP of the heap, and if you think that Ford or Hundai is perfect, Then I have NEWS for you. Even Toyota makes mistakes, However, THEY try to make it right, NOT cover it up.

Our 10-years old ML320 remains the most reliable vehicle ever.
I think the bad opinion about MB in about 90% was generated by uneducated American mechanics. Oil change done between FSS recommendation can do more harm, than good.
Than dropping couple of expensive computers into the car, because mechanic wasn't educated how to diagnose bad sensor is not exactly the manufacturer fault.

99 ML430 plagued with problems!

I had an 99 ML430, it was constanly in need of repairs! So many problems, I couldn't even start to list them. I sold it at 225,000 kms for $7000cdn. Dealer maintained it's whole life. No one wanted to touch it!
