Thumbs up 1980 300sd

Hey y'all.

I am a noob to MB and have browsed this forum for friends for years and now, finally I have joined your ranks. I have been given a well maintained 80 300sd. In the past I have been wrenching on it a bit for my Father in law as the need arose and now he said that I should just take it home. Ummmm okay... It has the usual, cracked dash, sticky windows, and it needs a bleed but wtf? I am now the befuddled owner of a Benz. Ah the journey begins, I can't wait.

First projects: Bleed the brakes; Fix the A/C; make sure all the windows/sunroof are closing consistently.

Well the brakes now work. I put some DOT4 in there and used the whole litre. I did that to flush out as much of the old fluid as possible. Out came a dark sludge. but when I was done I was thinking that I would have to track down some leaks. Any suggestions? Also the windows are slllllllloooooooowwwwwwww. and one does not work at all. Also, I am a little concerned about the sitting diesel. How bad will it burn or leave deposits or will it only burn if it can burn? I will search the forums for previous solutions. Just updating. Other than that she cranked up and went for a 70 mph spin. Seemed to get up there in a bit of a hurry. Kinda like that last rush of power from a dying battery, then poof! Hopefully these old Benzies are just that way. I was not expecting the speed especially in the passing range.

as long as you changed the oil and filters, fuel expecially. you should be ok to blast out all that old crap in the engine.
the windows:
hmm . I'd just take the door panels off and poke around. check the channels that they ride on. clean and regrease the pivots, pull, push, wiggle and look.. look.. look.
if after trying all those things ,, try putting the windows up and down all through the process. seeing if you can find any binding or misalignment while you have the panels off
