My Love/Hate Relationship with My 560SL
I just joined as a Free Member but am quickly realizing how much information is contained here and might just have to make it Lifetime.
I own a Midnight Blue 1986 U.S. Spec 560SL.
It has just over 150,000 miles.
The paint is starting to fade a little bit, some swirls from previous owner - hoping to have it color sanded and clear coated to remove the scratches and improve shine.
I have done all but the most technical work myself.
This car has really thrown a couple curves at me since I purchased it back in October '06.
In January '07 it started to tick on startup.
I thought lifters.
After taking it to a shop I realizded it was timing.
After replacing the Timing Chain, Tensioner, Left Camshaft, All the Valves and Lifters, Replacing an Ingnition Wire, RFemoving Several Leaky Seals / Gaskets and then performing all the necessary adjustments it now runs much better.
I was happy to pay the $3600.00... Not.
It still needs new Sub-Frame Mounts, The Engine and Transmission Mounts will need replacement soon, the Power Steering Pump has recently developed a leak, and the Tie Rods are ready to go.
I'm happy that this car sirts more than it drives because each trip reveals a new problem.
And about 4 Months back I had to rebuild the entire Braking System after they gave out on my way to work.
Power Brakes certainly are nice when they work though...
Car has a new Master Cylinder, All New Rotors and Pads in Front and Rear. And a rebuilt Front Passenger Side Caliper.
Running the Super Blue Racing Fluid, becuase after spending nearly $600.00 on brakes - I might as well.
I'm going to be performing a little overhaul on the car within the future.
Have to replace the Radiator -will have an entirely new Cooling Sytem.
Replace the Tie Rods and Bushings - Improved Steering.
New Front Shocks - Bilstein is Best.
Replacing all the Filters - Fuel/Oil/Power Steering/Etc.
Replacing the A/C System - Compressor locked and killed my belts...
Rebuilt A/C Compressor - New Evap - New Condensor - New Hoses
She better be good.
Thanks to all the support I have already received from fellow members.
