Ok so long story short I had an '84 190e 2.3, my dad bought it in 86 off a two year lease and the trans blew up in 2004, wasn't worth it to fix and the poor Benz got donated to charity. Somewhere in there is covered 190k miles, the odometer broke and the new one went to 150k before it broke, and that was in '99, my older brother and I both learned to drive in that 190. I think it went 20k without any sort of service once
and the trans was pever serviced, maybe that's why it blew up
8 months ago I bought a 1967 250SL with a blown motor, sent it in to the shop, had the motor pulled and had them started to rebuild it. Somehow it finally got done today and I had the car towed back to the shop to have the motor put back in, should have a running driving car again in a week or two, then I just need to address the suspension bushings, then it's on to the little cosmetic stuff.
Then while I was at the shop today I mentioned that I was looking for a new commuter car. Luckily there was another customer with a very clean 1993 190e 2.3, black on black, all the normal expensive parts that always break have been recently replaced and the car has been serviced by my mechanic for years now, and he has full records. Need to weld a new cat. on tomorrow then get some missing trim pieces, do a little detailing and throw some cross-drilled and slotted rotors on and I'm set.
I'll post pics of both cars later, but now I'm on the hunt for trim.
