2002 S600 Problem - Doesn't Go - Plz Help
The Car is a 2002 S600 with 71k miles. To give the full history, the car needed a new alternator, and Mercedes wanted 3500 because it was a water cooled alternator. I brought it to an alternator shop that fixed it for 1k, and the car ran fine. Since then I have received many battery low lights, but no ramifications from it.
10 days ago, the car stopped working. It would not start. I got it towed to a Mercedes repair shop (not dealer, bur reputable) that ran their scanner and said that it is showing that the catalytic converter is clogged. They also said there was possibly a bad oxygen sensor or two. They did say it was 3k for a new catalytic converter (there's six of them) but that it should be covered under your warranty. So i bring the car to Mercedes. They run their tests and say the converter is fine, however the problem is that you need a new ignition coil pack left bank. So they offered to do it for 1750, instead i found the part and did it myself for 250. The car now starts, but accelerates extremely sluggishly. Almost like a limp car, and normally it is much stronger, and the check engine light is on.
Could this be the catalytic converter still and the dealer missed it? Could it just be a bad O2 sensor that’s making it run rich? or is the alternator not giving the car the right voltage? What does everyone think? any ideas, if not i have an appointment for Mercedes on Friday, thanks so much for your help
