So, it's heresy to admit it, but Mercedes Benz does have to buy-back cars due to Lemon Laws. In California, the cars must be branded with a lemon law sticker on the doorsill and also with a notice on the title. MB also has to extend a 12 mo/Unlimited mileage warranty on the item they had to lemon the car over, but the cars are then resold.
MB sells them to third-party dealers, rather than from MB lots. So, who's got information regarding how much they sell the lemon'ed vehicles for at wholesale?
Spare me the "yer an idiot" posts. I already know that part. I'm just interested to figure out what the car was sold by MB at, ie some percentage of original MSRP or ??

Good question and you've made me curious too. I wonder how many other states have similar lemon laws? CA is generally pretty strict on other automobile issues so the sticker and registration doesn't surprise me. You have provided yet another reason to not buy a Mercedes from just any corner used car dealer.

Many MBUSA "lemon" chassis end up sawed up into little pieces (as required by the sales contract) after being purchased by a recycler and stripped of resellable parts.
I knew about the sales to "dismantlers", but I'm interested in those to resellers.
Want something scary? Many states don't honor California's lemon notice on vehicle title, so if you/a dealer buys it and records title in one of those states...instantly washed title without any Lemon notice on it. Next step, peel the sticker.
MB's online records don't seem to reference Lemon status in any code I can find. Where's Konigs... to verify?
If you are going to keep the car for awhile and you find the right situation I would buy one, It takes very little for the dealer to buy the car back at least that was the case with BMW's that I have seen at auction. When you find one ask the dealer for the paper work that they got at the auction it will tell you why it was a lemon law. Pretty much people buy the car realize that cant afford them bitch 3 times and they buy the car back, I am sure there are some situations that you would not want to touch but there is a deal to be had if you look. PM me what you are looking for and I will let you know
