Carsoft and USB COM Ports

I keep hearing that Carsoft doesn't like to work with USB serial ports ? Any other computer guru's on here experience the same ? I program Motorola radios with a Interface box and they seem to run fine with the USB Com ports. The problem is that the processor speed is too fast for the old DOS based software. I just ordered a multiplexer set off ebay (atleast I hope its really a multiplexer). Just wondering if I should consider using my old Toshiba laptop with real a serial port and Win98SE running on a 166 mhz processor. Any recommandations ?
