Wink Mercedes and BMW among the targets for Korean carmaker's first high-end luxury sedan

Can Hyundai compete with the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz?

Sounds like a tall order.

But who would have guessed during its Pony days 25 years ago that the Hyundai group (including Kia) would today rank as the fifth largest carmaker in the world, surpassing, among others, Honda and Nissan?

Their next challenge is to launch the Genesis sedan into the luxury segment.
The image and engineering targets for this car are the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. But the cars they expect to really sell against include the Cadillac CTS, Chrysler 300C, Lexus ES 350 and the Infiniti G35

For more details: Hyundai Genesis is a revelation

it all comes down to price. If they keep it "reasonably priced" it'll do well. But if they were to try & price it in the same realm of say the S Class or 7 Series it'll vanish faster than you can say VW Phaeton...

If anything, they should follow Toyota's lead & create a luxury brand with a new name & everything because many people won't pay more than 50k for a Hyundai (if they'll pay that much.)

With global sales of 3,961,629, Hyundai-Kia has shot up six places in just eight years. That’s a preety good thing. Congratulations. I’m not a very big fan of Hyunday-Kia, but…anyway. And anyway. Hyundai will never be able to compete with Mercedes-Benz. (my opinion)
