license plate --- seized screws

... and now for the silliest question ever !!!!

I just bought a c230 - 2005 coupe ... and i cannot mount the new license plate ... the screws ( one is broken one is missing ) the other two seem to be seized and the complete base is rotating .. tried w40, holding base with vise grips etc

any thoughts ?

Drill 'em out and re-tap. I did it to mine and they're fine now.

when you replace them be sure and use STAINLESS STEEL screws. It IS a Mercedes after all...

...and be sure to use the correct METRIC screws. One of mine was badly damaged because some numbskull crammed an SAE machine screw into it. When I pull the liner to replace the license plate lights I plan on seeing if I can re-swage/seat the "nut" as mine spins pretty easily. (I was able to get hold of it with needlenoze vice-grips and remove the offending fastener and ran the proper one through it a couple of times, which was sufficient to restore the threads.)
