Mexico's Oil Company, Petroleos Mexicanos is state owned, not a commercial company like US Corporations. They pretty much own from drill to pump.
Because Mexico's oil company is state owned they can sell gas "subsidized." But if there are more companies in the US that were allowed to make gas then the checks and balances of the free market would come into play. Because every time someone wants to build a refinery, be it an existing company or a new company, they are blocked from doing so the free market system is not allowed to control the price. It becomes a state sanctioned monopoly. The same thing happened a few years back in California over electricity. Republicans pushed through a bill to give an open market for the sale of electricity. But the Democrats managed to put a cap on profits thus removing the free market from electric power generation. And the price went through the roof. So there is now a big push to build more power plants. Richard Blum is one of the largest contractors in the state of California. He is Dianne Feinstein's husband. Guess who is building those power plants.
$4.39 in Maine for 91 octane, getting hard to buy 93 octane anywhere around here!!!! The 91 now has 10% alcohol in it. Runs fine, but fuel mileage is now below 23MPG. Cant wait til winter comes and I gotta pay 4K-5K just to heat My house. AIN'T IT JUST GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I'd be looking into running your furnace on used motor oil and start collecting it now. I suspect it can be done just as diesels will run on old motor oil. And there are garage heaters that run on old motor oil.
Paid $4.33 for BP Premium 93 Octane in Warren, Michigan. $67 for the total fill up. I actually saw premium as high as $4.45 at some stations in the area. Can someone say $5!
I would be happy to see gas under $5 a gallon where I live. I paid $5.08 a gallon on Friday. Big Whoop the price has been the same for the last two weeks. Other stations not much cheaper and I don't have time to drive around looking to save a few cents on gas. I am guessing the Chevron station I go to will up the price just in time for the July 4th holiday. This is for Premium 91 Octane the highest offered in California

Surprisingly, Chevron premium gas has not increased here for the life of this thread. I am still paying $4.29 (less 2 cents if I use Chevron credit card) so $4.27 because I always do.
