The DiesOtto acts like both a gas and a diesel engine: under hard throttle, it acts like it’s gas powered; when it isn’t being pushed hard, it acts like a diesel.

Post The Gas-Diesel engine(DiesOtto)

From MBz:

The DiesOtto acts like both a gas and a diesel engine: under hard throttle, it acts like it’s gas powered; when it isn’t being pushed hard, it acts like a diesel.

In theory, a Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition engine like the DiesOtto removes the contrasting combustion cycle weaknesses in both gas and diesel engines.
In a gas engine, fuel and air are mixed into a chamber, then compressed by a rising cylinder head. A spark from the spark plug then ignites the mixture, and – boom! – the explosion pushes back down the cylinder head, which then rotates a crank that eventually turns the wheels on your car.
The trouble with gas engines is when you're not on full throttle, which is most of the time, they aren't very efficient.
During this "part-load" operation, a gas engine's throttle valve on the intake partially closes to limit the amount of air entering the cylinder. This sucks additional power from the engine to overcome the partially open valve.
In a diesel, there is no throttle. Air is compressed in the cylinder until the temperature is high enough to cause ignition without a spark (that's where the term "high-compression" comes from; typically twice as much as a gas engine.) The amount of diesel fuel required is determined by ignition, not by the timing of the spark plug.
In contrast, an HCCI engine, powered by gasoline, employs automatic-ignition (diesel) under part throttle, and spark-ignition (gas) when accelerating or during cold starts. Its combustible air and fuel mix is compressed in the cylinder, heating up to the point where it begins to burn.
In a gas engine, this is inefficient, as a spark should control combustion. But in an HCCI mill, combustion throughout the chamber – instead of just at the spark plug – keeps temperatures low. And low temperatures means fewer emissions, says Mercedes.
