Original Owner 230 SLK 1998 with a starting issue

I cannot believe it took me ten years to find this website. Clueless! I am sure everyone here who owns a 230SLK has figured out the brake light issue, shall we go into: getting stopped by cops, drivers stopping you saying 'your lights out' (let me count the times) paying hundreds of dollars to have all back panels replaced still to no avail, considering therapy over the matter. Then ten years later receiving a letter from Mercedes stating the 'BRAKE LIGHT RECALL' and replacing everything for free after total madness! If you have not done so yet, time to treat yourself. Does dropping an aspirin in the fuel tank help? LOL!

Next, new issue: I know my car relatively well, but cannot figure out this one issue and am on a serious budget this time around. Know how to do this on the cheap so here is goes: For the last year it coughs in the morning. It still would start after a little warm-up and off I went. For the past week it barely starts, but if I pump the gas pedal it turns on and it runs beautifully the rest of the day. Had the battery checked and that is fine. Had someone run a test and have a list, but of course was told 'now if you want the real list we charge per hour' HA! Could it be my fuel pump? I thought it was the starter, but my excellent cheap old-time merc mechanic (who doesn't have a machine to test) told me it doesn't sound like the starter.

Also, need to know 'is there an eensy teensy itty bitty cap that goes on that little silver thingy that is attached to the radiator on the right hand side? Assuming it is the radiator that you put the anti-freeze in right? My coolant light keeps coming on and I noticed it was leaking out of there when I was pouring it in.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me with all of your advice. It is greatly appreciated.
