Hello from 1st time Benz Owner

Hi.

My oldest is just starting to drive and we needed a car for her to start driving. Needless to say we wanted a safe, relaible car. As luck would have it, we found a silver 1993 190E-2.6 (W201) at a local estate that was owned by the proverbial littel ol' lady.

Good news: It has had a single owner, clean title, no damage, no rust, no mods, no scratches.
Bad News: it has been sitting for the past 5 years and has a good thick coat of grime on it.
Great news: only 17,000 original miles on it with full service records (no issues). Carfax shows it was used less than 1,500 mi/year when it was driven in the 90's up to '02.

I put a new battery in it and it started up with no smoke, no rattles, smooth idle, etc., however the ABS light is came on.

So my question is that other than having to replace fluids and some cracked rubber hoses/belts, diagnose the ABS Light, what else should I plan to replace considering how long it has sat idle? Should I be concerned about the reliability of this car from it sitting so long?

Any info or suggestions you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

PS: I paid $3700 for the car......

You really should fit new tires. Even if not worn, old rubber deteriorates. and isn't safe anymore.

Hope your daughter enjoys it.

Welcome to the forum

Abarada,

Congrats on your buy.. I bought my first Benz, an 87' 190E 2.6 5 speed manual in Nov 92' with 45K km on the clock.. I bought it in Wiesbaden, Germany.. I still have it today.. and it runs smooth as silk after 190,000 miles I put into it..

This is what I recommend, drive the car for at least a month, then have it serviced.. change oil, spark plugs, check the spark plug wires for cracks, inspect and replaced the rotor & distributor cap as required, drain the coolant, flush the ATF if it is automatic.. You are a llucky guy, the Inline 6, 2.6 is the less troublesome engines for the Merc, as far as I am concern..

It has been sitting for 5 years, so you really have to check these things.. DOn't take it out for long desert drive yet until after you check the items I mentioned.. Trust me, I maintain my own Benz for years.. you take care of the Preventive Maintenance and you will have several grandsons and grandaughters getting married and your 190E 2.6 will still be running..

I have bought three other Mercedes since 1992, but I was not to happy with my 74' 450 SL V8 engines (sold it).. I like the 4 cylinder compressor with my 99' SLK 230 and of course the Inline 6 for my 91' 300 SL
