Post Mercedes-Benz receives three awards

Hello everyone,

Great news on quality awards for Mercedes. This is press information directly from Stuttgart dated today, June 5, 2008:

Stuttgart -- Mercedes-Benz is one of the most successful auto brands in this year’s customer survey conducted by U.S. market research institute J.D. Power. The Stuttgart car brand receives two gold awards for the highest vehicle quality in their respective market segments, and is also honoured for the world’s best production plant. This outstanding result is one outcome of the initiative launched by Mercedes-Benz to raise customer satisfaction and product quality.

In conducting the annual study, market researchers investigate the satisfaction
of American customers with new vehicle purchases within the first 90 days, and evaluate the quality of both the concept and execution of the vehicle. Overall, Mercedes-Benz moved up one place against last year from fifth to fourth, and is the only vehicle brand with three models (CLK, E and S-Class) within the top ten passenger vehicles.

This year saw the E-Class and the CLK each receive gold J.D. Power Awards. According to the U.S. study, these models are the highest quality vehicles in their market segments. Furthermore, Mercedes’ Sindelfingen plant receives the Platinum Award, making it the assembly facility with the best delivered quality worldwide.

meh ... the first 90 days don't tell you much about a car's long-term reliability. I'm a lot more interested in the results after 90 weeks.

^ Agreed. The awards are nice, but they do not speak to reliability at all. Let's hope there are more to come.

Good news in a long time. While it is true long term quality cannot be measured in the first ninty days, the initial period does establish a bond between the driver and the car.

Also it seems that the hard work by MB is showing results, I am sure the new cars will live up to the expectations of the motoring public and press.

From beautiful & exotic India.

Try this one on for size:

May 21, 2008, 9:15 GMT

Munich - Toyota cars have been most reliable on German roads followed closely by Mercedes in annual breakdown statistics kept since 1977, according to Germany's automobile association ADAC.

In segments ranging from small cars to premium luxury, Toyota won the top spot for reliability 34 times during the past three decades compared to Mercedes with 32, the ADAC said.

The most unreliable cars with the most breakdowns were Fiat, Renault and Opel which together achieved the lowest rung in terms of reliability 69 times, the automobile association said.

Summarizing the statistics compiled annually since 1977 from breakdowns on German roads, the ADAC said there had been a shift since 1985 from typical breakdowns caused by fan belts, defective accelerators and loose spark plug cables.

'Over the years cars have been packed with more parts and complicated electronics so that more things can break than in the predecessor cars with simple mechanics,' the ADAC said pointing out that cars in general have not become more reliable.

Most breakdowns today, some 39.7 per cent, are caused by rundown batteries or electronic parts.
