Can anybody tell me if it is safe to transport my soon to be 10 year old child (86 pounds) in the front passenger seat of the SLK230? Is there special seatbelt adjusters, etc?

Difficult to say what is safe but to reach the maximum safety you should follow your car's user guide. Just a partial quote below.

My 4 year old rides in the slk. I have a babysmart seat. I think there are 3 sizes for those seats and we have the middle one. You can call the dealership. They can tell you if there is a larger seat.
