I find it hard to believe that with the repair history that extended warranty companies have available to them that they would not be charging much more for a warranty on a Mercedes.

Yes but the repair history versus warranty price relationship is not directly proportional. That's the way it works in business, sometimes one area subsidizes another.

The MB new car extended warranties (CPO too) are negotiable, or so I've read on here several times. If you think you still want one, call some other dealers or try to bargain with yours.

That is expensive. Is it a Mercedes warranty or aftermarket? Sounds aftermarket, which means lots of flexibility on pricing. Either way it's overpriced.

fyi-to extend the Mercedes warranty on a CPO 06 ML for 2 years the brochure listed a price of about $2500.

ZURICH (UNIVERSAL UNDERWRITERS SERVICE CORP.)

I have a 2005 S500 4MATIC I purchased this past Dec. It had 47,500 miles the day I purchased. I bought a "Vehicle Service Contract" the day I purchased the car which covers the car for another 48 months or 100,000 whichever comes first....cost $3,005.00.

I had my first opportunity to use the "Contract" this past week. The Tire Pressure Sensors had to be replaced. Total cost at the local dealer, $938.32. The "Service Contract" paid $589.16. The contract paid for the replacement of all 4 of the TPS and the labor to install the same.

Here is what they did not pay for and the reason.

4 replacement valve stems. The dealer said they needed to be replaced or they would warrenty their work....cost $28.80 each plus tax.

Another interesting note, the replacement sensors cost $127.30 each but the service contract would only pay the MSRP on the sensors or $112.00. It is in the fine print of the contract. The dealer added on an extra $15.00 becasue he is the only dealer within several hundred miles I guess. (Boise, Idaho)

And then there was the $25.92 charge for "Environmental compliance & Shop Supplies." Not covered of course.

I ended up paying $388.18...no one could or would explain how they came up with this amount....dealer service rep said that was the amount after the "insurance" payment.

My honest opinion: This is insurance, not a warrenty. I sleep better at night. Just wish I had more choice when it comes to dealers.

As far as I know there is no deductable on the Mercedes warranties, at least there wasn't on my CPO. I vote 'aftermarket' with you.

I bought the aftermarket one I now have from my MB dealer but they use Fidelity Warranty Services. The finance guy told me they shopped around and in their opinion it was the best company. It has a "disappearing $50 deductable" which means I don't pay it if they do the work, only if I take the car to another participating shop. They also have a $100 for sure and $250 (if I recall correctly) deductable plan.

As you wrote, since your new car warranty ran out your only options might be the aftermarket ones. Have a look here, just for kicks:
