My 06 ML has a manual dimmer on the mirror, as compared to the auto-dimmer on my C-class (with P1 package).

Strange but I hardly ever need to use the ML manual dimmer thing on the mirror. The mirror might have some anti-glare coating on it. Or maybe because of the dark tint (of the factory privacy glass) on back window, the glare is reduced. Side mirror glare is probably reduced because of my 35% front side window tint.
Great! I thought you'd accept my comment as such (FYI only), but just making sure.

Thanks for the further explanation, and you are correct, this has been very educational.

True, on a 208 at least the mirror dimming control circuit seems to be a separate unit from the overhead control panel control unit. This one obviously works "alone", except that even this circuit is equipped to read the CAN-bus and without one connected, the "dimming off" when on reverse or interior lights on must remain missing. Probably not a big deal though. But on a W203 the control the overhead control panel control unit reads the sensors, anyway good to make a note of the 208 type of design.

(Thread Starter)

I now have a good replacement interior rear view mirror with Auto dimming and Homelink garage door opener.

I thought I would be able to look at this and figure out how I should remove the existing mirror, but I am still in the Dark !@#$.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the internal rear view mirror on my W203 ?

I also need details of the wiring on the replacement mirror so I can test it prior to fitting.
The Plug coming out of the mirror has 3 wires
Grey with blue strips
Pink with red stripe

Can anyone tell me which wires are what ??

I also acquired a new Auto dimming glass for drivers side external side mirror, cost AU$50 this has no sensors of its own and must be activated by the sensors in the internal unit. Once I have the internal mirror fitted what is involved in activating the side mirror.
Wiring ?
Control Unit Activation ?
etc ?

Thanks for any Help
