Well after looking at the wikipedia entry, it does appear that the statement was backed up by at least another website, so I rescind my adamance. However, I still don't trust the number. If Delorean can create an entire car company, develop a new car and build a state of the art factory for under 108 million pounds it seems implausible that Mercedes would spend 6x that on a single model.
Also, Daimler Chrysler's R&D budget in 2005 was $7.34 billion and of course it's a much larger organization today. That's a pretty big slice of the pie. I suppose I'm not an automotive executive, but it seems like a lot of money to devote to a single car. Really what it boils down to though is that I just enjoy hating on wikipedia whenever possible.

In regards to the development cost of the 190, adjusted for inflation $600mil in 1983 dollars would be 1.2b in 2007 dollars. Assuming the pound at the dollar have had similar rates of inflation over the past 25 years, and how strong the pound has been in comparison to the dollar over the years you're looking at over $2billion. To which I'm going to say... BULLSH*T! There's no way Mercedes dropped 2 BILLION dollars on R&D for a single car. I'm not trashing the 190 BTW, just wikipedia.
Here's another meter.
John Delorean took 85million pounds from the Northern Ireland Development Agency, $22 million from investors, and $18 million from dealerships (in up front payments) from 1979-1982, for a total of (again, assuming like 1.8 dollars for a pound) 108 million pounds. With that he not only developed a car, but built a factory to produce it, created a car company and embezzled or completely waste like 1/3 or more of that money.

Alot of people are confused about wikipedia. Wikipedia is not the word of God. It is a constantly changing source of information that is many times not correct factually. If you want proof go to your favorite Wikipedia listing, go to the bottom of the page, hit edit, and change whatever you would like. Save the page and viola!
So yeah - I wouldnt trust the Wik unless you find it somewhere else as well...
Converts are nearly uselss in the North. It's either too cold or too hot. They are generally purchased by men having a mid life crisis (Sebring ring any bells) or chicks trying to look flashy.
So I look flashy when im going about 115mph,guess I better at least do my hair the next time I go for a ride.

Yeah. Good call man. Apparently whoever wrote the original entry missed a few things so I had to take your advice and polish it up a bit. hehe.

I haven't driven one, so I can't attest to the handling, but a Boxster is cute. It's a car for the kind of person who tells the salesman they want something red when he asks what they're looking for. My cars run on my sweat and blood(y knuckles). They are part and parcel of my self imposed identity. A 126, or 190 for that matter, is to be worked on while enjoying a six-pack of bud. You'd need a cosmopolitan to wrench on a boxster.

600 trillion.. Who would have ever guessed..
ROFL! I didnt have the balls to do that less they ban my IP from legitimately contributing later. I do from time to time when I know what Im talking about...Hilarious!
I think Im secure enough in my own sexuality to drive whatever I want to without fearing the judgment of others such as yourself.
hehe. Yeah, I've got about 7000lbs of steel penis extender sitting in my driveway right now. All I need is a .45 and an AK-47 or two and I'll be good to go.
I'm not going to lie though, any late model Porsche is going to attract way more vag than all the 126s and W-Bodies in the world. The best was when I saw a Cayenne towing a GT-40 on Royal Palm blvd on Palm Beach island. That'll really do the trick.
First off, look back at the guy who posted first. He does not sound legitimate at all.
His choices are so far all over the place like a CLK compared to a used GTC????? Thats easily a $100K difference. Where does cars like the 911 lie?
Not to mention, the CLK does not look girly unless you make it so. Just dont buy a white one.
