MB C180 1995 Overheating

Hiya, I own a 1995 c180 which seems to be overheating in traffic, it runs just above 80 degrees most of the time. When in rush hour trafiic, it climbs to around 110, which, to say the least is a little worrying. I have changed the viscous fan, which made no difference at all. the fan was taken from my spare C180, which is known to be working. The other strange thing is, that when i stop with the heat that high, and check under the bonnet, the fan hasn t cut in. even though its a known working one. Also, does anybody know where the coolant temperature sensor is located as i may try that next. I have a whole spare crashed car, so parts aren t a problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Dave The Hot

Follow the wiring from the fan. That should lead you to the switch which may or may not also be the temperature sensor. If it isn't, follow the wiring from the switch. It's like ET following the Reese's Pieces; you'll eventually find your way home. Hope this helps.

Mine is w201! just wanna share my experience maybe it might help. I also have the same problem few months ago, my viscous fan was the problem. I overhauled the radiator, fixed the fan and checked for leaks.
Now its back to normal.
Check the viscous fan if it's rotating perfectly.
