The internet converter I found said 1059 km is slightly more than 658 miles and the ODO had 658.X on it when I took it in. They told me to bring it back after 660 and that's as close as I got. I haven't done the qt/liter conversion but I'm sure you are correct.

This is what I expected since I drove about 2000 on fresh oil the last time. That's to say before the car's sensor told me to add 1.0 QT. For whatever reason, the older the oil gets, the faster I burn it and that turned into an oil debate on one of my threads.

I still think the car burns too much, but as you stated, "Not a warranty repair situation" so my plan is to now have oil/filter changes every 5000 miles. I don't know what else to do at this point.

Thanks for the feedback.

MM - Sounds like the right approach for your car.

Makes you wonder if MB expected some oil usage with those motors (3.2L SOHC), since they are providing a electronic warning for low oil level. I think they provided a electronic warning on the old 5.0L SOHC motor too.

fyi - The 3.5L DOHC in my ML 350 does not have oil level electronic warning. But consumption rate on this car with 41K miles is tracking about 1 quart per 9000miles.

MB-SV,

Thanks for agreeing with my approach.

Yes I am wondering that too. For what this is worth, it does not beep and show you a message until it says ADD 2.0 QT. I have to scroll through the menu using the up/down arrow keys (left side here) and tell it to take the measurement. I have immediately added the 1 quart when it tells me to, so I don't know if it is programmed to read ADD 1.2 QT. etc.

Your oil usage is certainly well within what I would call normal limits.
