Question NEED YOUR OPINION!!! C-Class coupe!

Hey guys,

I'm new to these forums and Mercedes itself. I was planning on getting an 2003 c230Kompressor(1.8L) coupe/hatchback. It has about 100 000 KM/ 63 000 miles. 6 speed transmission. It has the evolution packages with 17inch alloys leather and sunroof.

I was wondering if you guys have encountered any major problems with this car? I don't care much about speed and I won't be racing or anything like that. Just wanted a luxury coupe to get me around town.

It was between this and a 323ci/328i.

Should I go for a 2002 2.3L one? any difference. My main concern is problems with the car not maintenance (i can cover the service A and B) I won't be doing any major modifications except the stereo(I heard it was really weak).

Please let me know what you think!! be harsh!! hahah Still in university and don't wanna waste my hard earned money.

Thank in advance

This model and year are to be avoided. They are unreliable and repair prone. The electronics are poor at best. The C class coupe isn't exactly a good all-around car either. I wouldn't touch it.

In this case, the BMW 3 series might actually be a better pick. If you get the last classic looking BMW's (before the stupid Chris Bangle crap), then you've got a fairly good car. They weren't super reliable, but were built better then the pre-face lift C class.

Sounds like your budget is tight while attending college. Best bet would be a one-owner Toyota or Honda. Later you can splurge on a Benz with a warranty.

My six-speed '05 C320 Sports Coupe has been going strong, with 120 K miles.

A coupla minor part failures, one headlight washer ejected on the highway and one door stay broke (the thingy that holds the door at preset locations).

A coupla weirdness events w/ the COMMAND, fixed by ejecting the NAV disc.

The center console cover was a pain 'till I reverse engineered and documented the mechanism. Now it's fine.

Rear tires wear out in no time, front tires last 3X longer. Brakes last about 100 K miles.

Easy low-cost maintenance.

I know thats true. hondas and toyotas are good for students but i just love the German engineering. some of friends have rsx-s, preludes and accords but they just don't feel the same as a bmw or benz. my friends dad has a 330i and it feels soooo nice to drive! i have driven a lot of Japanese cars but they just don't cut it.

I keep reading good reviews about the c class from people but then every once in a while the person give it a 1/10 and everything went wrong with the car. Looks like those people got lemons.

Ill keep in mind the bmw thanks.

any comments on the 2.3L or the 1.8L?

thanks everyone!!

I would'nt go smaller than a 2.3L in any merc. I could run faster than a 1.8.

I know your not looking for speed but compared to a 323/328 BMW the merc is rubbish.

At 100,000 most faults should have been ironed out (if there were any) and I agree with tonysmallz, the coupe is girlie.

Good luck.
