General Question Concerning Warning Lights

I have a 2000 E320 sedan. The ABS and BAS-ESP warning lights came on on the way to my office this morning. The trip computer was stating that I had three malfunctions. I tuurned the engine off and then turned it back on. The warning lights did not come on and the trip computer said no malfunctions.

If I take the vehicle to the dealership now - without the warning lights, etc. on - will it be able to detect the malfunction codes on its service computer?

Thank you.

As I understand it there are 2 types of codes, soft and hard. The soft ones are erased when you have a transient issue that is not safety-related and you cycle the engine on and off (sometimes once, but it could take more cycles). Hard codes are stored in the car's memory until someone with the proper equipment clears them.

I think most ABS and BAS-ESP codes are of the hard variety and the dealer should be able to see them.
