I believe you may have already made up your mind to buy it. That's okay but you'd better expect problems. I've seen a dozen of these cars setting like a low rider because the airmatic suspension failed. Troublesome years, the 00-02.

Where did anyone on here recommend getting an older Mercedes? I don't see where that happened. That is totally unrelated to this thread.

Statistics are statistics and useful as such but usually if the car has been well serviced, most of the initial issues get fixed (not all, some are fixed with the same parts that tend to fail).
Stats are VERY meaningful, especially when such a large segment of owners are surveyed. When a vehicle is shotty from the get-go, its not going to suddenly become wonderful because a couple things are fixed on it! The more these vehicles age, the worse they get.

I liked most the comment "As with any used car it is all about condition".
Its also about the build quality, electronics, design and reliability. All of which are seriously lacking on a 00-02 S class.
