Dip-down right-side mirror

The owner's manual for our 2008 E350 gave instructions for programming the right-side outside mirror to dip down when backing up. Since this is a wonderfull feature that I loved on our 2005 Audi A6, I attempted to program it. No such luck. My salesman told me that MB dropped it on the 2008 model. I was really annoyed; why in the world would they eliminate such an owner-installed option? When I took the car in for its first service I commented about the fact to the service advisor. When the car was finished he told me that he was able to program the feature back into the car. I love it.

What I don't love is the fact that my Parktronic backup sensors do not start making a sound till I am 10 inches from an obstacle (another car). Yes, the lights do indicate that I am getting close to the car behind me when I park, but it would be helpful if the sound warned me as well--like it does in other cars I have owned.

I can think of only one reason for this. My car also has front sensors. In order for the sound not to come on when stuck in traffic, they programmed the car to not make a sound till the car is very close to another car. And they were too lazy to have it work differently for the rear sensors.

So much for German engineering--it may be meticulous but it isn't user-friendly.

I do like the fact that the trunk is not locked when the doors are not locked, unlike in my old Audi. Why keep the trunk locked when an open door permits access to the button that pops the trunk open?

MB dropped of these helpful features, like the dipping right mirror, because people kept complaining that there was something wrong with it when it was operating as it should. People just don't bother to read the fricking manual these days...

The mirror motors were prone to failure. It is less problem on Mercedes, but on older BMW I used to own that was common problem.
Don't know if that is the issue here, or what asian says.
New MB owner constantly complain about CC level too close to the blinker, but MB keeps on putting it this way for 30 years.

I had a couple vehicles with this power dip mirror feature (including a Chevy Silverado) and I loved it. It made parking along a curb and not curbing your wheels a breeze.

I have an 08 ML and still have this option. I guess, it's only available in Canada?
