My wife and I started with a 07 C280W4. We lease because I tend to drive my cars hard. In 2008, when we decided we needed an SUV as well (space + seating) we were interested in the R and the GL. The GL was a bit out of our price range but the R was a complete mess. The thing completely dragged. Felt like a 4 cylinder trying to haul a trailer or something!
Upset that there wasn't a MB for us, we set out to find a suitable vehicle. The Infiniti QX was terrible (though the M and G are still nice compared to MB), and the Escalade and Lincolns not worth the cash..... The Lexus' third row was totally uncomfortable (though looking back, we probably should have given it more consideration, the salesman was a complete jerk though). ... We checked out other vehicles as well and suprisingly enough ended up at a Buick dealership. The Enclave was a great truck it seemed and we priced it out. Suprisingly the salesman came back with a monthly price well above any other car we drove.
The culprit was their interest rate (over 8% while everyone else was well below 4%). Told him if the interest rate were lower we'd take the car, he said no. Pulled out a stack of files and said something to the effect that I should buy the car "because all these people didn't have a problem with the interest rate." I told him that's because all of those people were too oblivious to realize that they could drive down the block and get a MB or Lexus (both more expensive) for the same payments and walked out telling him I'm going to get the ML350. Settled on the ML350, at least we got the space, and love it. A week later the Buick guy calls and says they can do 0%. Anyway....
The ML is up in a year and we're considering the GL again. Will also consider the Audi, Buick & Lexus again as well though. We don't drive much and so we're considering buying this time (potentially used because I can't see buying a new car that will lose so much value when I sign the papers), but wanted to know if you had a sense as to when MB will change the GL line?
