That's not the kind of "advice" I was looking for. I seeking a solution to the wiring problem. Perhaps I need to order a kit from Europe.

Yes, you most likely do. However, that may not be the solution you need and here's why: the Euro kit may or may not be compatible with US cars, so you may still be getting the error message. I reckon you will need to reprogram the light module, which may or may not be feasible. The fundamental problem here is that you're trying to use the vehicle for something it's not designed to do. Having an attitude doesn't help either.

First of all, you gave me an answer to a question I never asked. I never asked what the car was "designed to do". I simply asked for a solution to a problem, which is one of the reasons these forums are so great. Your need to chime in was unnecessary. The fact that you have made over four thousand posts gives you no more credibility, though. Moderators, please close this thread.

I see. Just because you didn't get the answer you wanted, this thread should be closed. Brilliant!

Considering that in my seventeen years in the US, I'm yet to see so much as a single Mercedes sedan tow anything, my guess is very few people. Our friend is upset that MB doesn't support the application he has in mind for his car. By his logic, MB should probably also offer a plow kit for the E350, seeing as surely someone would like to plow with one.

Since I got my drivers license 30+ years ago, I've yet to see anybody tow with a Mercedes sedan. Oh well, who cares.

^^I too would like to be able to tow a small trailer with my car but have been deterred by the potential electrical hassles (among other things). Its a legitimate question.

I lived in DC for 4 years. You can definitely get by with RWD as long as you have good all-season tires and use some common sense. My biggest concern during snow storms there was not getting hit by all the people driving around with lousy tires and no idea how to drive in snow.

AZ: Any news or even speculation about when more diesel models will be available in the US?

It certainly is, as was my answer.

at the risk of feeding the trolls:

I would like to add a snowplow to my car. I think it's unconscionable that MBUSA doesn't have a kit available that will make that possible for me. Also I want a puppy.

on a more serious note, you may have to homebrew your tow light solution yourself. You may look at how much current is being drawn on the circuit, then create a solution that creates the same draw on the circuit (possibly by replacing the bulbs in your tail light with LED bulbs that may produce the same lumens with less power requirements?). That way the car won't know that you have anything else in the mix that's affecting the power being drawn. I have no experience with car electronics, so take that with a grain of salt.

Getting back on topic, AZ, thanks for all the great input.

Given the current gloomy economic times, what do you predict for MBUSA, and particularly your own dealership for the next year?

Do you see any corollaries between good economic years and bad in terms of quality issues in MB? Are general quality problems followed by general economic downturn and/or does quality pick up in down times as the company tries to return to quality that may have allowed to lag during boom times?
