Any experience with Maaco?

Considering it for the 280S.

I just need a cheap alternative for a paint job just to make the car look decent. i'll post some high def pics and see what you guys think if it's worth it for me to get a Maaco job. I was quoted $1600 by a guy that my uncle is well acquainted with for a drive in and pay paint job.

Anyone think it's worth it to get a temporary Maaco until I can afford the full $1000+ job to get it done well? Or should I skip maaco and save up? Basically the paint is really the clear coat in many places is gone and the surface feels very rough.

Here are the pics.

Leave it be, MAACO will lay on paint mask it poorly, I would do the same color and I dont think you will get a good job for a $1000.
You get what you pay for a taxicab paint job on a old squad car.

I agree....

A Macco job will look even worse in a year or two than you got now. And they will not prep it right. And be twice as hard to fix and redo then.

A real paint job is going to be at least 3.5 to 4K around my neck of the woods. And thats if you stay with same color so you don't have to do the insides of doors and stuff.

Heed what has...

been said above.

A less expensive alternative is get a pricing for a decent paint job where YOU pull off the trim, door handles, head and tail lights, etc., and then wet sand/prep the body for the new paint job.

A great deal of the time is in the prep work and re-installation of all the exterior pieces. A significant cost savings can be had here...

The MAACO paint job is a cheap cover-up approach: Mask, spray and pray...

If you go on to get a quality job done at a later date, you will be paying extra for the paint shop to clean up the mess from the MAACO job.

Good luck,

I have never used them personally but some guys I knew in the used car business did. At that time, and it's been a few years ago, if they had a car that needed paint so they could sell it they used Maaco for a cheap and quickie job. Things might have changed, like 1985MB380SE mentioned with their premium service, but I would save your money until you can have the type of paint job any Mercedes deserves.
