A190 won't start - battery ok - no noise from starter

just had 80000 km service from my mercedes dealer, drove from geneva to nice (2000 km) - two days later i go out to the car and it won't start. the electrical system is apparently ok - battery fine - tried jumping just in case.

when i turn the key - absolutely no noise. no clicks from the starter - nothing.

is the starter dead? is there something that could have been disabled preventing the car from starting (this is my first mercedes)?

If your starter is anything like the B class(and I think it is), you'd better be on warranty.

To change the starter on the B, you have to remove the engine and trans and steering and front tables and on and on..... Check with the nearest dealer and ....Good Luck!!! Derek

now it starts ... hmmm

two days later it started.

not at first, but after pumping the gas pedal a few times, it did start. weather was much warmer too.

so doesn't that rule out the starter?

You first said that there was nothing from the starter, now you pumped the fuel to get it to start???
Was it now turning over but not starting??

If you somehow had bad petrol or diesel, then the warm temperature would help if ice was in the fuel system.
There are additives for petrol and diesel that solve some fuel problems related to dramatic temperature changes.
Good news that it finally started though. Now off to the dealer to see if the defect codes show a problem. Good Luck!!

the first time there was nothing from the starter at all. the day it started, i heard one click. i pumped the gas a few times just in case there was no fuel in the engine - and it started right up

Since you don't mention, the key probably turned OK, meaning the drive authorisation worked OK.

There should be a "small click" anyway, from the starter relay (K6). You would probably not hear it inside the car. If there is no click from the starter motor solenoid, perhaps the starter relay is bad. You could measure the voltage from the starter relay to the the starter motor solenoid. If there is power to the solenoid, then that would be bad or seriously stuck (mechanically).
