Post 1992 180E

Hey there. I just bought a 1992 Mercedes-Benz 180E yesterday but I can't find anything on the net about it like the chassis number or anything like dash kits etc. All I can find is of 190E which looks pretty much identicle to it (w201).

I have bought a car before with the wrong badge on it (633CSi badged as a 635CSi).

Just wondering if there was such a thing as a 180E or if its actually a 190E...forgive me if this seems a daft question but this is my first time with a Merc as I've come over from BMW's. Always flirted with the idea of a Merc but never did anything about it until I just sold my 6-Series and I got this one on the cheap because there was quite alot of lacker damage.

MySpace.com - Andrew - 20 - Male - Perth, AU - www.myspace.com/aindriu_dubhghaill - I got some pictures of it in there.

Chassis no. 201.018

Engine is a M102, 1,797 cc 89 x 72.2, making 109 bhp at 5,100 rpm; 150 ft-lb torque at 3,700 rpm. Despite the smaller size, the 1.8L got worse fuel economy than the 2.0L

0-60 mph 12.3
118 mph top speed

The 1.8, badged in Australia as a 180E, was an entry level model, with many of the power or convienience features made optional.

Given the US consumer's disdain for "cheap Mercedes" it was never brought to the US, but did sell reasonably well elsewhere, particularly when the price point avoided VAT surcharges.

Thanks guys, that info helps heaps (apart from the annoying advertisments on this forum!).

I'm already planning nice neat touches to make it look nicer.
I'm getting a full wood kit for the interior off eBay and when I have enough money a pair of these bad boys...

82-93 Mercedes Benz W201 190E Crystal Clear Headlights on eBay, also Head Lamps, Lights Lighting Accessories, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 21-Mar-08 12:21:51 GMT)

I'm thinking of eventually getting those modern smoked tail lights but to be honest I actually think the stock ones are quite attractive.

This is my first time with Mercs as I said before and I started a new job today and everyone was saying "who's Mercedes is that out there?" and when people found out it was mine "oh your in the wrong job mate" and it's got loads of the lacker comming off and its a 16 year old car!

My car has never had that sort of attention and I drove some old but very nice characteristic BMW's.

Just hope nothing goes wrong mechanically but I hear they use similar equipment (Bosch etc.) as BMWs and mechanically my experience with BMW was very good although, bearing in mind, I could have been lucky.

Another quick question...does anyone know if this gear knob would fit in my old 180E/190E 1.8

eBay Motors: Mercedes 190 Shift Knob Automatic With Overdrive (item 310030659545 end time Apr-08-08 22:19:16 PDT)

Thanks.

There's a perfectly good W201 forum a bit further down the board.
