2001 W210 Trim discoloration

Anyone have any advice on repairing the faded aluminum window trim? Is painting the only answer? I have been quoted by a dealer $1500+ to replace the trim which I do not find a reasonable answer. Does anyone know where to buy the trim?

This was discussed on the Detailing forum. If yours is only mildly oxidized as mine is, Meguiar's product All Metal Polysh (what I have used) will help but it only looks better for a short time. In fact, any metal polish that is safe for aluminum should be OK. Then you should put a coat of wax over it; someone suggested a cleaner wax on that other thread, I think as the only step.

If they are so bad that they appear as a copper color, I think your best option is to replace them. The head detail person at my dealer said that is our only realistic choice once they start to go. I'm not sure, but I doubt that painting them would look right.
