Cool Squeeky wheel get the grease?

The steering wheel of my 2000 E320 squeeks substantially when I turn it. Is there a way to lube it and quiet it down?

See your other thread. The steering wheel issue is the only one of the three where I stand on firm ground. Luckily, my car was under warranty but I told you exactly what the dealer did, except for a front end alignment once they reinstalled the rack & pinion.

There are actually TWO tsbs for steering wheel noise, one of which -- the one MM references -- requires removing the rack. The other is a lubrication procedure on the rubber seal through which the steering column passes from the passenger to the engine compartment.

The latter is cheap. The former is stunningly expensive. Mine required both (then under warranty). Recently it's started a light moaning when cold, I'm hopeful it's the cheap procedure.

FWIW, there is a forum specific to your chassis, scroll on down and you'll see the W210 forum in the sedan section. Lots of great tips, DIYs, and folks to give you a hand. You're likely to get better assistance and more pointed information there than in this general forum. Also, please take a moment and complete your BW online profile re: vehicle and location as that can be very useful information.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
