all the way to right, with engine running and trans in Park. Is there any truth to this?

I don't think so. Belive the quickest way is to disconnect and reconnect the battery.

Turn the steering all the way left and right several times and this resets the PML steering angle values, its a commonly known thing. By doing this you can eliminate quite a few lights In the trade, its a norm

turning the wheel lock to lock only turns off the esp light if you recently had the battery disconnected. it normalizes the steering angle sensor. has nothing to do with the valve on the steering rack.
