You may get away with it, but is it really worth the chance?

Lets assume that you get 20 mpg, that you drive 10,000 miles a year and that premium costs 20 cents a gallon more than regular.

It will cost you $100/year more to use the recommended fuel.

In your case you probably get closer to 30 mpg and your cost will be well under $100/year to use the right stuff.

It isn't worth the risk, not to me anyway. Not when the cost of repairing one of these things can break the bank.

This has been discussed many times. If your owners manual says to use premium, use premium.

Hi Todd,

You need to fill out your profile so we know where you live.

I live in Minnesota where regular is E10 (10% ethanol) while premium is all gas. I am no engineer but I would never put regular in either of my MBs. When MB says "premium only" I take that to read "no ethanol".

Remember E85 gas results in about a 25% reduction in milage. So it only makes sense that E10 also results in lower gas milage. So when one works out $/mile it can be cheaper filling up with premium. I talked to someone with a Suburban who fills up with premium for trips because he finds the better gas milage more than offsets the price difference. Around town he uses regular.

Do what you like. Personally I drive a premium luxury car and treat it as such.

This has been discussed here ad nauseum.
I understand that if you are USED TO using cheap 87 Octane Gasoline
it's a little hard on the wallet paying for Super Unleaded/High Test.

However the Stuttgart Engineers have engineered this car to be a High Compression Engine, like the Porsche, Ferrari, Corvette, Rolls Royce etc.
All high compression engines. Your Mercedes Benz IS a High-Compression Engine.

Use 91 Octane or better.

( Wait until the question is asked about which gasoline is better?
Do I "have to" use Synthetic Oil? etc etc. ) haha.

It's not worth the chance, use premium and google "top tier gasolines" for a list of the best out there. Baby your Benz and you will derive the benefits.

I have done this twice and my wife gave me 20 lashes. I noticed the performance loss and will never subject my C230 to this again. The cost of injectors and anything else in the combustion chamber will cost you and arm and that leg. Plus 87 has a chance of being more dirty ie less detergent for the engine.
