That's a fairly complex transmission, if it's running fine I would do a fluid and filter change and clear the code. Hopefully that will take care of it and you'll be motoring happily for many more years to come. It's a regular maintenance item anyways.
Have your tech check the connections as well, sometimes they are known to leak (or corrode) and that can trigger a code. Often that code relates to the control module, which could be under the center console (have you spilled anything there lately?), not sure on the older W140, if you search in that forum you may find a bit more info.
