Which of course doesn't apply to Mercedes V engines or 6-cyl engines, making your post irrelevant.

Most of the front wheel drive dual exhausts on V6's and inline 4's are fake duals.

But here we are talking MB's and with late model MB's the dual exhaust systems are functional/true duals, see the new C-class, ML, SL, GL, R-class, E-class, S-class as real examples.

MB sees it correctly; a must-have styling and functional feature for all of their new high-end vehicles.
Sounds highly plausible to me - I agree.

Has anyone actually converted a single to true dual exhaust?
If so, any noticable power/mileage/noise change?

A change in noise level is not just the result of going from single or dual exhaust, changes to muffler type, etc. makes a difference.

Comparing similar OEM-type single versus dual exhaust (relatively quiet), expect about 5 hp increase which is barely noticeable. I've seen published specs from Chrysler and GM on speific products that support this estimate.
