Here's what I've found so far

The quality of the CDs and the recording speed makes a big difference.

I tried cheap CDs and they don't work when recorded at any speed however Sony one's play when recorded at 1x speed. I read somewhere that when it's recorded at a slow speed the pattern made by the laser is more defined and easier to read. This seems to be right.

So now it plays, but the problem is that the Audio 10 CD player hunts to find the tracks for about 10 seconds everytime I start to play the CD. It them misses the first minute of the first track. Tried a head cleaner in the player and my burner but that did nothing.

I'm off to try a different make of CD now. By the time I find a CD that works 100% it might of been cheaper to buy a new MP3 compatable player and bin the merc one! But nothing sound better than the merc engine with the roof down and the supercharger starts to whine.

All burnt CDs have lower reflectivity than factory discs, RWs even less than Rs. Burning at lower speed improves quality but does not solve the lower reflectivity.

Audio 10 units are pretty poor with burnt discs, interesting that you have succeeded with one CD brand at least.
