$600 for an oil change and tire rotation

What a ripoff.

"At the Benz dealer in Beverly Hills, the GL's whine was diagnosed and the second scheduled tuneup performed. For $571.04, the service crew dumped in fresh Mobil 1 synthetic oil, rotated the tires, and inspected the brakes. The rear brake pads, at 3 mm, were deemed worn out, so those were replaced, along with a rear brake sensor, for another $357.42."

if you think it is such a ripoff, why did you pay for it? or why did you even consider doing it.

Regardless it's still a ripoff, especially if you calculated the hourly rate based on actual hours spent.

Nobody's reading carefully - he didn't do it, he's quoting from a Motor Trend article, and what was done was not an "oil change and a tire rotation" but the second scheduled maintenance, which surely included more than an oil change and a tire rotation.

That's the way I read it, since he had the link at the bottom of his post.

Many of us will use the dealer for service while the MB is under warranty, so it's a realistic scenario and realistic pricing in the high cost coastal areas of California and probably the east coast too. I plan to use the dealer for my 39K service on my ML, combined with identifying about 5 items that need to be fixed under warranty.

Note: the overpriced service will include a MB loaner car.

Look on it this way.
$600 is less, than 100 coffees at Beverly Hill Starbucks.
And MB dealer washes the car.

How else are you going to get swirl marks so you can pay them $800 for a detail later?

Yeah.
I believe the MT writer is giving a nod and wink to the reader by placing the absurd $$ amount in the same sentence as the minimal services performed.
Of course, MT being a whoremag can't say it out loud.

MB dealers went to medical school studying "proctology" but repair pays better. I actualyy had a fight with my local dealer, after they wanted to do things I had recently done, air filters, and caps and rotors which they had done six months earlier. They did not want to reset my FSS if all the services are not performed, I won that argument!
