Power Steering Reservoir

I have a 1999 ML320. A couple days ago i noticed a spot in my drive way and the last couple of days i have this shieking noise when i start my truck up that i have never had and when i turn the wheel notice it gets louder and my steering will pulls a little but when i am driving staight evey thing is ok... A friend of mines thinks i am low on power steering fluid or my have a leak. My question is where is the power steering reservoir on a 1999 ML320 for me to check it... and if it is low... can i use just any power steering fluid or does it have to be MB? Help please.

I would put MB fluid, it doesn't take a lot of it anyway.

The reservoir would be on top of the pump. If you follow the poly-V belt to the find the pump, you will find the reservoir. The cap would have a level stick.

Thanks for the info... don't mean to be a nit wit but I am a female and have no clue about that ploy-v belt your talking about... let me tell you what i think it is and you can confirm(hopefully)... There is a cap just under the engie cover on the driver side towards the front of the truck... i had to left the engine cover up just a little bit to be able to slide the cap off... when i pulled the cap off there is a little stick that is about 1/2 inch long that stick from under the cap. Am I in the right spot?

This time the parts diagram isn't showing the location too well and I did not find a figure for the 163.154 but this attached photo should be from a W220 and should be pretty similar to your ML. I believe it confirms that you did find the correct cap and oil reservoir.

By the way, there may be an issue with the oil power steering hose, leaking at the front of the car, close to the radiator. I don't want to put the document here, if interested, PM an email address and I'll send the document.

By the way, MB approved steering gear oil types for the ML should be:
Fuchs Titan PSF,
MB 236.3 steering gear oil, or
Mobil ATF D.
