Post '05 C230 Oil change...

I need to get my oil changed and live far enough away from the nearest Mercedes service location that it would be beneficial to find someone local to do it. My local oil/lube shop states they will allow me to utilize them for the change provided I tell them how. I have all the filters (OEM) and know how to check the level, the only thing is....where do you add the oil? Is it introduced into the system from where the oil filter is removed? Also, would you chose Mobil 1 synthetic over conventional? Thanks for any constructive input.

Naturally use Mobil 1 full synthetic all the time. I'll go looking for the oil fill and get back or maybe someone out there with an 05 C230 will help!! Your saying that there's no visible oil fill cap. Strange!

I would never, EVER, utilize the services of a shop that told me they’ll do the work if I tell them how. If they don’t know how to perform an oil change, paying them to learn on my vehicle would be out of the question.

Your C230 has an oil filler cap. That is where oil is added. If you have a C230 Kompressor engine, I think it looks like the one in the attached photo. If so, the arrow points to the oil filler cap.

There is a DIY oil change post in the W203 forum (the specific one for your car).

That said, why not just do it yourself? Buy the vac device, it's all done from above and why give money to other people to learn how to do their job?

Mobil1 0W40 is the proper spec oil for your car. Once you've gotten the old oil out, pour the new in right where the filter assembly goes. Bigger hole, less likely to spill.

And if it's not clear, I'm in full agreement with the other posts: go somewhere else if you're not willing/able to do it yourself. No way those guys can be trusted.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg
